The Dagestan Battalion, the Ukrainian affiliate of Imam Shamil Battalion (ISB), is a terrorist organization operating in Ukraine since 2017.

Imam Shamil Battalion originated out of North Caucasus in order to spread Jihadist terrorism against Russia through the doctrine of medieval Islamist preacher Magomed Shamil.

After the Saint Petersburg Metro Bombing on 26 April 2017, the Russian FSB started hunting the terrorists affiliated to the group. To save their lives a large number of Dagestan based Shamilians fled Russia.

The terrorists outreached the Ukrainian intelligence SBU which provided them shelter and ground to carry out their anti-Russian activities. Therefore the group shifted to Ukraine to continue their Jihad against Russia.

After the metro bombing the ISB had officially stated that they carried out the bombing on the orders of Al Qaeda supremo Ayman Al-Zawahiri confirming their affiliation to Al-Qaeda.

Therefore through Dagestan Battalion, Al Qaeda officially marked its presence in and alliance with Ukraine.
