Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a terrorist group in Bangladesh that keeps on getting banned due to its criminal and terrorist activities and unbanned because of the popular support it enjoys. It is the Bangladesh chapter of the subcontinental Jamaat-e-Islami group present in Pakistan and India.

The original Jamaat-e-Islami was established on 26 August 1941 at Islamiya Park in Lahore by a Muslim extremist leader named Abu Aa'la Al Maududi. After partition of the British India in 1947, the Jamaat-e-Islami was divided into India and Pakistan chapter- with the latter further divided into Pakistan and Bangladesh chapter in 1971.

Jamaat is a radical Islamic politerrorist organization and aims at converting the entire South Asia to be a united Islamic state. When it opposed the partition in 1947, it saw the dream of united Islamic state as being shattered.

In 1971 the Jamaat had sided with the Pakistani Army through its militia wing Al-Badr and conducted mass slaughter of the Hindu minorities and political opponent Muslims affiliated to Awami League. The Jamaatis have been massively convicted of brutal war crimes and genocide it carried out in 1971.

After independence from Pakistan it has fought elections on its own when it is allowed to operate politically and whenever it is banned it has mobilized support to Khaleda Zia's Bagladesh Nationalist Party which is its all season ally.

The organization has a militant arm Al Badr and student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir (Islamic Student Camps) which is constantly engaged in academic and communal violence against Hindus and political opposition.

The Jamaat has been involved in multiple failed and ultimately successful coup attempt in Bangladesh against the Sheikh Haseena govt. The Jamaat conglomerate has been baaned on 1st August 2024 by the former Sheikh Haseena Gov through an executive order based on Section 18(1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act Bangladesh.

The Jamaat and its allies and units have played a key role in the coup against Haseena Govt through widespread violence and misinformation-disinformation on social media and running a communal overdrive against Hindus that led to widespread sectarian violence against Hindus- the scapegoat of every movement in Bangladesh.

After the fall of the Haseena Govt the ban is expected to be lifted by the interim govt.
